Tool Chest

Saved tools, organised into sets, so a style you set up once is one click away.

A standard markup tool draws in whatever colour and weight it was last set to. A chest tool is that same tool with a name and a saved style: "RFI" is a red cloud at a particular weight, and it draws the same way today as it did last month.

Chest tools are grouped into sets, and sets are what you turn on for the job in front of you. They live in the Tool Chest panel, which is where they are managed.

Built-in sets

Five ship with the app, all starting turned off so nobody gets a toolbar full of tools for work they do not do.

Built-in sets are read only. To change one of their tools, copy it into a set of your own first.

Your own sets

Build one by dragging a standard tool onto it, which copies that tool's current style, or by adding a starter tool from the set header.
Rename a tool by double-clicking it; move it between sets by dragging.
Pin a set, or a single tool, to the markup toolbar. That is how the half dozen tools you use all day stay in reach without opening anything.

Your library follows your account: saved locally first, synced in the background when you are signed in, so the sets you build on one machine are on the next one.

Notes

A chest tool is live, not a snapshot. Arming one gives you a real, fully editable tool; change its colour mid-session and the change is saved back to the tool.
Editing a chest tool changes what it draws next. Markups already on the sheet do not follow it, which is what keeps a record of what was marked up stable. To restyle a batch already drawn, select them, from the Markup panel or by hand, and edit the selection.
Arming a chest tool never disturbs the plain toolbar tool of the same type. "RFI" and the standard Cloud Rectangle are separate things.
A chest tool can be click-placed where the standard tool cannot, if it has a placement size saved on it.

Tools travel with the project

Every markup records the tool that drew it, so a project opened from someone else can show the tools its markups were made with, even though you have never had those tools in your own library. They appear in the chest under the project and arm straight from there.

Nothing extra is stored in the project to make that work; it is read off the markups themselves. To keep one of those tools, add it to your own sets.
